Not unlike Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Marvel’s greatest marksman, Clint Barton a.k.a. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) has so far remained exclusive to The Avengers movies. Both had cameo appearances in other films (Hawkeye in Thorand Banner in Iron Man 3 post-credits scene) but their stories have remained exclusively in the hands of writer and director Joss Whedon. We’re not counting the Ed Norton/Louis Leterrier Incredible Hulk movie.

Whedon did wonders in turning Hulk into a fan-favorite with how he was utilized in The Avengers, to the point of increasing demand for new standalone Hulk movie, but for Hawkeye (Renner also signed for a potential solo Hawkeye film), it’s been a less stellar ride. Renner came in to meet for the role of Hawkeye over nearly five years ago, but the character he was pitched, the one he even discussed with Whedon did not make it to the screen…

Instead, due to script changes, Hawkeye became a pawn in Loki’s evil schemes. That meant for most of The Avengers, Hawkeye was a mindless drone under the control of the villain, and when he wasn’t, it was all mainly just action sequences. The character’s backstory, personality and development was largely left out. Worse, Hawkeye is the only character who didn’t even get a cameo appearance throughout Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Jeremy Renner just shared a Hawkeye poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Check it out!

Oddly enough, in this poster the winter background represents the opening sequence of the film where Hawkeye will be  wearing his new, long-sleeved costume. Here he’s instead wearing his standard outfit as seen in Avengers 1. Someone’s going to have cold arms wielding that bow…

For some reason, the poster also has been mirrored to the point of making Renner all of a sudden right handed. Whoops!

If not today, tomorrow will see the release of an Avengers: Age of Ultron one-sheet for Chris Evans as Captain America, and after that it’ll be time for the new characters: Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). But that’s not all! Last week we posted a lengthy and in-depth interview with Chris Hemsworth from the set of Avengers 2 and this week we’ll followup with new interviews with Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner.
