Luc Besson’s VALERIAN Gets A Release Date

Earlier Today, Director/Screenwriter Luc Besson revealed the name of his next sci-fi venture: Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets – which according to him, is due for release on July 21, 2017. The film will be based on a French comic-book series that was created in 1967. The film seems to be somewhat of a passion project for Luc Besson, who took to social media for the first time ever, just ast week to discuss what he called “the biggest challenge of his career”

Benson said,

Hello everyone – As you probably noticed I’m not really the king of social media, it’s, in fact, my first day on it. Why suddenly? Because I’m starting today the biggest challenge of my career and I don’t want to be alone. I want to share. It’s a huge sci-fi film called Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. It’s based from a comic book, maybe the most famous one in Europe. I’m a big fan of it since I’m 12 years old. Valerian and Laureline are two agents traveling through space and time. They will be played by Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. I have around 800 days of work ahead of me, plenty of time to be discouraged or feel lonely, so I’m counting on your support. I will try to share my adventure with you as much as I can. So… I go back to work, talk to you soon. Luc ?

The film will star Dane DeHaan as ‘Valerian’, who’s a space/time travelling agent from a futuristic Earth. Alongside him will be Cara Delevigne, a rising star in Hollywood right now, Delevigne will play the titular hero’s red-haired companion, ‘Laureline’.

The original Valerian graphic novel is said to have influenced one of Besson’s earlier features, The Fifth Element – along with the original Star Wars series. Given the pedigree of those movies, alongside Besson’s work as a writer/director, this looks like a project worth keeping an eye on. What do you think? Are you a longtime fan of the comic? As always, let us know down below!
