Brand New Fast and the Furious 7 TV Spot – The Hunted Become Hunters

Avengers: Age of Ultron will mark the beginning of the annual big-budget Hollywood films for the U.S. While this April’s Fast and Furious 7 is poised to emulate the financial success of 2014 pre-summer release Captain America: The Winter Soldier (which hit theaters the same time last year).

The newest Fast and the Furious movie will continue the series into brand new territory, much as the last two installments have. Case in point, the film’s new TV spot (see above) makes Furious 7 look like a revenge action/drama crossed with a covert thriller – albeit, one that stars Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his fellow ex-street car racers, taking on Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham): the vengeance-seeking, ex-special ops agent brother of Owen Shaw (Luke Evans from Furious 6).

There’s not a whole lot of new footage included here that hasn’t been featured in previously-released Furious 7 trailers, though we do get a better look at the lead-in to the fistfight between Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Kara – the character played by real-life professional fighter turned actor Ronda Rousey (The Expendables 3) – that’s been teased in the movie’s marketing already. And, of course, the clip ends with another glimpse at Dom’s impressive skyscraper-hopping stunt in the film, as was first unveiled during the movie’s Super Bowl XLIX promo.

Furious 7 is the first installment in the Fast and the Furious movie franchise to not be directed by Justin Lin since 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003, with James Wan (InsidiousThe Conjuring) having sat in the captain’s chair this time. So far, though, Wan and his collaborators appear to have succeeded in doing what Lin did with each of his Furiousfilms: ratcheting up the ridiculous-but-fun action quotient even higher, without losing sight of the character stories that form the series’ foundation. That bodes well for the movie that will serve as the onscreen farewell to Paul Walker.

The roster of returning cast members in Furious 7 also includes Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift alum Lucas Black, while newcomers this round include Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou, and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones).

Furious 7 opens in U.S. theaters on April 10th, 2015.
