Top Ten Best Superhero Games of All Time!

Top Ten Best Superhero Games of All Time!

As we all know, Superhero Movies are in hot demand right now, but throughout the years it seems that their video game counterparts haven’t shared the same success. Although, there has been a lot of failures – it only seems fair to mention the ones that were great! So in honor of DC’s most anticipated upcoming video game Batman Arkham Knight CINECHEW is going to run down the Top Ten Best Superhero Games of All Time!

10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time

superhero games

Number 10 on our list, is probably one of the first and best video arcade games of all time! And amazingly enough, if you’re lucky enough to play this game today – it still holds up!

It’s hard to believe that this game is twenty four years old, coming out in 1991! Initially on big arcade cabinets, this game eventually turned to video game consoles everywhere!

The Konami game was based on the highly successful TMNT cartoon, with villains such as Tokka, Krang, Shredder and Rahzar. Even the insane lust for pizza was emulated as your way to regain health! The turtles said their popular catchphrases and went about familiar levels that we all knew on the show!

9. The Punisher VIDEO GAME

superhero games

Coming out 13 years later, The Punisher was released along with the film in 2004 and serves as one of the best games of all time, coming in at Number 9!

Although, Frank Castle (The Punisher) isn’t your average superhero, he’s definitely one of the most interesting! The Punisher is one of the few Marvel characters that’s not really meant for children as he is for adults, his PS2/Xbox game is one of a handful of very rare M-rated superhero titles. The game was extremely graphic and definitely not something you’d want your child playing! The game follows Frank as you help him drown men in toilets, crush skulls with pianos, and even use a piranha-filled aquarium as a dunk tank!

Something even cooler than that was the cameos that made an appearance in the game! Cameos such as Iron Man, Nick Fury and Black Widow!

8. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

superhero games

I think we all can agree that the video game developers at Traveller’s Tales have produced some of the best video games around today, bringing the stories of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, DC and Marvel into the awesome world of LEGO.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, is no exception to that truth, allowing players to relive some of DC’s most memorable moments in toy form has proven to be a great way to give players the ability to rehash truly great sequences again and again!

The result being not just one of the best video games focused on DC Comics, but arguably the best LEGO video game as well! Putting LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes at number 8 on our list!

7. Deadpool video game

superhero games

Coming in at number 7, the Deadpool Video Game definitely deserves to be not just on this list, but on any other list that has the words best and games in it! – The third-person player drops you into the red and black boots of Marvels most beloved Mercenary –  all the while, giving you the chance to hack away in what has to be one of the bloodiest games of all time!

Although, the battles gets somewhat stale when the credits move, however its more than compensated for by a stellar script and brilliant drama scenes. Deadpool’s ability to break the fourth-wall is there from start to finish. Also, there’s a scene where you’re ready to slap a knocked out Wolverine for a strong three minutes, and who wouldn’t want to do that?!

6. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows

superhero games

As it comes to no surprise, Spider-Man has definitely had his share of video games, from movie tie-ins to comic book stories being retold and everything else in between coming in at number 6!

Sure, there has been a lot of bad Spider-Man games, but one of the truly great ones that come into mind is this one! Giving you the feeling of what its like to dawn the mask even if it was just for a couple hours!

Web of Shadows dropped Spider-Man in an open world, filled with petty criminals and super villains! One of the coolest things about this game was that you weren’t limited to just Spidey’s normal powers, but you could also don Venom’s black symbiote suit! – Although WOS might not have had the best storyline or voice talent, it did a good job with gameplay and frequent encounters of fan favorite heroes, such as Wolverine and Black Cat!

5. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

superhero games

If I may say one truth to this game, is that it’s hard. It might even be the most difficult to master out of all games on our top ten!
Although it may be difficult, that doesn’t make it any less impressive! And I mean that with every sense of the word! – This game brings together some of the most beloved characters from both Marvel and Capcom into one final epic battle!
Even now, it’s astonishing how they could adapt so many superheroes and villains so faithfully.
I don’t think that anyone can argue the game’s overall polish and technical precision. Making it one of the best fighting games in the last decade, and number 5 on our list!

4. DC Universe Online

superhero games

First of all, there are so many great things to say about this game. So let’s just start with the basics!

DC Universe Online attempted to do something that comic books have been doing for years! Putting together a huge number of different worlds and universes into one all together gaming experience. – And this game nails it!

This action-based combat game, suited the massively multiplayer online RPG well, giving a great physical feel to the DC Universe that other MMOs have often lacked throughout the years.

This game does a fantastic job of not only letting you make your hero, but having it fit into the DC Universe perfectly. Your character will feel right at home alongside the likes of Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern. It’s absolutely jam-packed with lore and fan service, and being a part of it is a fantastic experience. Putting this little gem at number 4 on our list!

3. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

superhero games

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was one of those rare instances that almost never happen. You have a horribly made superhero movie and an amazingly well made video game to go along with it?!

It almost doesn’t make sense because it’s always the complete opposite, but this game came to us at quite the nice surprise! It basically is the movie told in video game format – but for some reason, when it puts you in the driver seat of the man with claws who can’t be killed – you can easily feel invincible!

This game even allows you to play as Wolverine is in the comics! That’s right! The original yellow, blue and black suit!  – We highly recommend this game and that’s why it’s at number 3!

2. Injustice: Gods Among Us

superhero games

This my friends, is what happens when you merge great minds! You take the very talented creators of Mortal Kombat and mix them with characters of DC, and you get this amazing truly game!

There’s nothing to be said wrong for this game. The story is so good, it could be turned into its own film! And was even turned into its own comic series!

Each character plays a distinct story from one another, and the use of stages as weapons, via “interactables” scattered throughout your surroundings, is a novel concept for a 2.5D fighter.

Plus, the insane amount of costumes choices are chock full of references that will delight even the earliest of DC fans. It’s one of the most faithful, hard-hitting brawlers a comic lover could hope to own – making this epic number 2 on our list!

1. Batman: Arkham City

superhero games

Why Arkham? Because what else could it be!?

The Arkham releases were the first to be game of the year caliber packages. Arkham Asylum understood the dark knight like no other game before it, embracing and recreating the dark knights character at his best.

He was a fighter, a detective, a ninja,  and most importantly, a hero!

Arkham City expanded and somehow improved on all that! –  He could hunt down criminals in alleys and patrol rooftops, stopping crimes both mundane and world altering. When playing that game we were justice. We were the night. We. Were. Batman! – And you could be too if you played it. We can think of no better gift a game can bestow.

Make sure to look out for the next installment in the Arkham franchise – Arkham Knight!
